The Rhinelander Area Silent Trails Association (RASTA) will hold the 8th Annual WEMS Rock’n Root race at the Washburn Lake Silent Sports Trails Area, Perch Lake Shelter, 7650 County Park Rd, approximately 6 miles west of Rhinelander, WI, on July 20, 2019.
The park consists of an enclosed, heated shelter building with a covered deck with fireplace, vault toilets, disabled access fishing pier and a grassy picnic area with grills and tables.
RASTA is excited to partner with the Badger State Games to host this WEMS race. The BSG will provide T-shirts to all participants and medals for all classes and ages. Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards will be given in the normal WEMS categories along with additional awards in the Short Distance or 3 Hour Race in the following categories:
• Male under 18 yrs.
• Male 18 yrs. - 44 yrs.
• Male 45 yrs. plus
• Female under 18 yrs.
• Female 18 yrs. - 44 yrs.
• Female 45 yrs. plus.
• A High School Team Award will also be awarded for the most miles/laps ridden by a coed high school team.
The race course will utilize both single track and double track to provide an exciting and demanding 7-mile loop. The single loop course will be approximately 80% single track (we haven’t figured out the course yet as we are trying to incorporate a new section of trail that just opened this year) with lots of hand-built single track with roots and rocks, and even more machine-built flow trails. And, of course, Stone Soup for you masochists.
The final course will be determined approximately 1-week prior to the event so check RASTAs website http://rastatrails.org/ and Facebook sites for updated race information.
Registration is available on-line at https://wemseries.com/ or prior to each race on-site at the Perch Lake Shelter. Day of Race registration will be available at 8:00 a.m. Saturday morning and will close 15 minutes prior to the start of each event. But please don’t wait for the last minute as it really stresses out our timing crew!
The start times for the Rock’n Root will be:
• 10 Hour: 9 am – final lap must be finished by 7 pm
• 6 Hour: 12 pm – final lap must be completed by 6 pm
• 3 Hour: 2 pm – final lap must be completed by 5 pm
We are offering FREE course side camping for Friday night only. We will also accept donations which will go to cover the cost for permits and anything extra will be donated to RASTA. We would prefer that people bring tents rather than huge motor homes, but we understand if all you have is a motor home. Check-in will be open at 4:00 p.m. on Friday and check out by 10:00 p.m. on Saturday night when the park closes. Strict quiet hours will be enforced from 10:00 p.m. until 6:00 a.m.
Chili and fixings will again be provided by RASTA to race participants free of charge. And maybe a few adult beverages.
