Speed Stack Cups Record Day

On Thursday, November 8, thousands of participants will take part in what Guinness World Records terms the “World’s Largest Sport Stacking Event.” 

Locally, individuals are invited to participate in a Speed Stack Cup event at Calvary Baptist Church (320 Lincoln Street) in Rhinelander on Thursday, Nov. 8 from 4-5:15 p.m. 

At the Cup Stacking event, students will learn about speed cup stacking and will be up stacking and down stacking various pyramids in prescribed patterns at lightning speeds.  The event is totally free, but pre-registration is encouraged by calling 715-362-4792.  While pre-registration is not required to participate, anyone who pre-registers will be entered into a drawing for a special prize.

According to certified Speed Stack Cup Ambassador Becky Barker, there are several reasons why the sport of speed cup stacking is growing: “Speed stacking uses both sides of the brain, increases speed on task, helps students learn cooperation, assists the brain in using recognized patterns leading to better math skills, uses both the left and right hands – but most of all, it is just fun!  All ages are welcome at this event and parents are encouraged to come.”

Speed cup stacking has been called a “track meet for your hands – at warp speed.”  Students use 12 specially designed cups to up stack and down stack in predetermined sequences as fast as they can, working against the clock.  This year’s goal is to break 635,000 individuals stacking in groups of 25 or more for at least 30 minutes in one day. In addition to the United States, groups will participate on this one day from Hungary, Germany, Israel, South Korea, New Zealand, Columbia and Taiwan.
